The Business Advisory Implementation and Development Services (BAIDS) team has announced it is extending its support and resources to Black-owned businesses in Calgary.

It’s the fourth city the outreach program has visited, following trips to Yellowknife, St. John's, and Vancouver.

“Our mission is to empower Black-owned businesses and professionals, and our outreach program is a critical part of that effort,” Nadine Spencer, CEO of the Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA), said in a statement. The BBPA is an ecosystem partner of the Black Entrepreneur Program.

“We believe that by providing tailored support and resources to entrepreneurs, we can help build a stronger, more resilient Black business community in Calgary and across Canada.”

Workshops this week will focus on outreach events at the Investor Lounge at the Platform Innovation Centre. Discussions include general advisory, marketing, business plans, tax, and legal services.

Since the program launched, BAIDS has distributed more than $2 million to provide support to more than 225 businesses. More than 800 applications have been received, its website reads.

“BAIDS is committed to supporting Black entrepreneurs across Canada, and we are pleased to bring our expertise to Calgary,” Frances Delsol, vice president of partnerships, outreach, and procurement at the BBPA, said in a statement. “We understand that entrepreneurship can be challenging, especially for those who lack access to resources and expertise. That's why we are here to provide personalized support and advice to help Black-owned businesses in Calgary thrive.”
