Local MRKT is held on the second Saturday of every month until September, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mimico Square at 2445 Lake Shore Blvd. W. at the foot of Mimico Avenue.

Local MRKT returned for another weekend of local shopping at Mimico Square on Saturday, May 13.

From bath salts to nutritious drinks to jewelry and more, at least 26 vendors filled the square and sold their products at the event, which included a kids’ face-painting booth, access to a local splash pad and much more.

“I think the turnout was great. This is about supporting underrepresented groups and the community as a whole,” organizer Richard Ramsuchit told Black Dollar Magazine. “As coloured organizers, we know it can be hard to get approved into certain markets, so we do our best to give a diverse market where people from all walks of life are represented.”

Also, a focus for the organizers Ramsuchit and Dayna Persaud is the support they provide to vendors setting up for the first time. They said they get over 100 people a month that reach out to join the market and that experienced business owners are also welcome.

This is the second year of the Local MRKT summer series.

This year’s market, in partnership with Mimico-by-the-Lake Business Improvement Area, runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month through September.

Future dates include June 10, July 8, Aug. 12, and Sept. 9.
