Robin AI, a Black-owned startup established in 2019, has secured $26 million in a recent funding round led by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, a global investment powerhouse.

With the infusion of funds, the brainchild of former Clifford Chance lawyer Richard Robinson and machine learning research scientist James Clough, Robin AI is poised for substantial growth and global expansion following the investment.

“This is just the beginning. We are building the AI platform for the legal sector. Our AI will help people tackle every legal task,” Robinson said about the company’s future.

Using generative AI technology, Robin AI has revolutionized the drafting and negotiation of contracts and the extraction of information from extensive contract repositories through an intuitive search interface. The startup’s machine learning model, honed on data from 4.5 million legal documents with valuable insights from in-house lawyers, has birthed a “lawyer bot” proficient in efficiently drafting and editing legal contracts.

The legal copilot, accessible as a Microsoft Word add-in, has shown an impressive 85 per cent reduction in contract review time. The efficiency gives legal teams in businesses the tools to move with unprecedented speed and translates into substantial cost savings, enabling them to allocate their time strategically.

Building on a prior funding success of $10.5 million in February 2023, where Plural led the investment round, Robin AI has further solidified its position by becoming one of Anthropic’s launch partners for releasing its large language models (LLM), including Claude.

Since then, Robin AI has seen a surge in demand for its contract copilot, with customer numbers quadrupling in the past year and revenues experiencing a five-fold increase.

The substantial funding injection will be pivotal in capitalizing on Robin AI’s robust momentum in the dynamic market. The company has also outlined plans to expand its team in the United States and establish an office in Singapore, facilitating its strategic entry into the Asia Pacific region, according to People of Colour in Tech. Additionally, the investment will contribute to the growth of Robin AI’s existing team of AI and machine learning experts.

Following the announcement, Robin AI extended thanks to its customers, investors, and partners, highlighting their role in the company’s success.

“We are tremendously grateful to all our customers, dedicated investors, and wonderful friends who have supported us wholeheartedly,” Robin AI wrote on LinkedIn.
