The Financial Women’s Association (FWA) held its 65th annual gala dinner in New York City.

Sharon Bowen, CEO of BMO Capital Markets, earned the title of Public Sector Woman of the Year, while Dan Barclay received the Male Ally of the Year award. The organization also celebrated its past presidents for their contributions.

“Thanks to the FWA leadership team and especially thanks and congratulations to Nina Batson, a trailblazer and history maker in her own right,” Sharon Bowen said in a statement. “I also want to congratulate those who are being honoured.”

Bowen broke barriers by becoming the first woman and the first person of colour to become chair of the board of directors of the New York Stock Exchange, a statement reads.

Undergraduate scholars and mentors from FWA's programs were also recognized.

The FWA provides a forum for women to display their leadership and advisory skills through networking, ground-breaking educational programs, distinguished speakers, peer-to-peer mentoring, and more.

“It gives us great pleasure to recognize Sharon and Dan for their contributions to our mission to promote the professional development and advancement of all women through education, mentorship, scholarships, networking, alliances, and advocacy across the financial community,” FWA President Hermina 'Nina' Batson, who is also the association's first Black president, said in a statement.

“This year's in-person gala dinner, which comes a day after International Women's Day and as we celebrate Women's History Month, is an opportunity to thank our leadership and members, past and present, for helping to drive IDEA — Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access – as we pave the way forward for all women in finance.”
