A Black-owned media platform called Goodfeed, which provides in-house royalties to Black women and minority content creators from the earnings generated on their content, has been launched.

Owned by Hero Media, a Black-owned digital-first media and technology holding company, it will look to break down the pay gap that Black journalists and creators face.

“One of our main goals at Goodfeed is to help women creators monetize their content. We are (the) first Black-owned social media platform that shares in display and ad roll revenue with select creators in our network,” Hero Media founder Joseph Anthony told AfroTech.

The company already works with a number of journalists and content creators who cover a variety of subjects, including clean cosmetic items, career guidance, fitness and training, and nutrition. Users can expect to see blogs and videos.

Users will also be able to take a more active role by setting up channels, publishing articles, sharing videos, and other activities in addition to reading the works of internal journalists.

“Goodfeed is a direct response to a gap in the market and the current lack of transparency and authenticity that is occurring on social platforms,” Theresa Myrill, vice president of social media and director of Hero Media, told AfroTech. “As a woman, especially a woman of colour, I am bombarded with images, brands, and influencers that have been so wildly augmented it’s becoming progressively harder to know whether or not you are having genuine interactions with people and brands.”

Goodfeed is set to expand to Android and Apple's app store during the first quarter of 2023, according to AfroTech.
