The Black Entrepreneurship Alliance has launched a program to teach Black tech founders and other entrepreneurs how to access private capital from venture capital funds to grow.

The four-month boot camp will teach entrepreneurs how to navigate pre-seed and seed-stage financing rounds and provide one-on-one coaching for fundraising strategies, networking and more.

“…Black founders need more access to funding opportunities for their businesses to scale,” Black Entrepreneurship Alliance manager Olu Villasa said in a statement. “Investors need to be more open to funding Black-led start-ups for them to have a chance at succeeding, and Black entrepreneurs need to unlearn some old skills and tools and relearn new ones that will help them succeed. This is our mission with Investment Bootcamp.”

YSpace at York University — an innovation hub that helps businesses raise capital — has also joined as a strategic partner.

There will also be a demo day for entrepreneurs to network with investors.

“For one, the strategic partnership with YSpace at York University has a track record of helping companies raise funding with their ventures raising over $67.5 million since 2018. Secondly, the inclusion of a DEI training (session) for investors will help reset their minds and perspectives before seeing our ventures at Demo Day. This part gets me really excited because we designed it from the ground up, and it’s interesting to see how it will shape out,” Villasa said in a statement.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 20, 2023. Those interested can apply here.
