Six languages are spoken by Bedel Mbaya: English, Spanish, Swahili, Portuguese, and Lingala. But he couldn't seem to communicate with bankers for some reason.

He was a hardworking 27-year-old carpenter who required $45,000 to pay the franchise fee for the junk-removal business, Junk Chuckers, in early 2021. However, he had the backing of Junk Chuckers, was committed to starting his own business, and met all the requirements for a loan on paper.

Yet the banks turned him down at least four times. They made no statement, but he was certain he understood their motivations.
