The Black Designers of Canada has announced that it has partnered with Fashion Art Toronto to showcase the work of Black designers and provide networking opportunities, a mentorship program, and more.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Fashion Art Toronto to further our mission of empowering Black designers in Canada," George Sully, founder of the Black Designers of Canada initiative, said in a statement sent to Black Dollar Magazine. “This collaboration will provide a much-needed platform for Black designers to showcase their talent while raising awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the Canadian fashion industry.”

Working with creators in clothing, furniture, interior, graphic, and industrial design, The Black Designers of Canada is a non-profit organization supporting a cluster of professionals nationwide.

Meanwhile, Fashion Art Toronto, established in 2005, is a multi-arts fashion event held in the city. Its spring-summer event will take place on April 27–30 at the Black Creek Assembly.

As the groups aim to bring diversity to Toronto’s fashion industry, Vanja Vasic, founder and executive director at Fashion Art Toronto, said the partnership should inspire other organizations to make a concerted effort to focus on diversifying the industry.

“Fashion Art Toronto is committed to supporting the creative community and fostering a more diverse and inclusive fashion industry,” Vasic said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with the Black Designers of Canada initiative and provide a platform for Black designers to showcase their talent and inspire change in the industry.”
