Winnie Karanja, a digital entrepreneur, spotted an odd pattern when she started the Maydm organization in Madison in 2015.

According to Karanja, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk come to mind when people are asked to name engineers, innovators, or STEM leaders. So she started Maydm to offer girls and young people of colour skill-based training in the technology sector in grades 6–12.

Her most recent endeavour, a new media firm called Represented Collective, has as one of its goals to highlight the contributions of women and people of colour in STEM and train the subsequent generation of tech leaders.
